Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is well-known as a public speaking. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which examines female representations in narratives from popular culture. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social Thinking from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the university. She was a young woman who wanted to create an online series which would explore gender representations in video games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her as a way of acknowledging all the contributions that she have made. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that examines how women are represented in the popular culture stories.
